The BRNC reserve known today as “The Boulders” extends over more than 700 acres of land in Pittsfield, Dalton and Lanesborough. It includes much of the acreage of two former Crane Estates, “the Boulders” and “Willowbrook,” and part of “The Gulf” or “Wizard’s Glen.” Though most of the area has been largely undeveloped throughout recorded Berkshire history, it’s been a place of great cultural significance that has been impacted by human activity in a wide variety of ways. On this walk, we will go back in time to explore this rich cultural history with local historian, Joe Durwin.
