Did you know that Berkshire Natural Resources Council preserves an island? Bring your own canoe or kayak for a day of exploration! We’ll put in at the boat launch ramp (see detailed directions below) at the south end of Lake Ashmere and paddle under the road to the island at the north end of the lake, where we’ll picnic and swim. Ashmere Island is a 7-acre forested island on the northern half of Hisndale’s pristine Ashmere Lake at a pinch-point very near the eastern and western shores.
*There is a spare canoe available with space for two people, email Charlotte at chood@ to request a spot. bnrc.org
Basic instruction will be provided for those who might be new to paddling. Some paddling experience recommended.
What to bring: PFD, water, sunscreen, and a snack or lunch.
Where to meet: Meet at LP Adams parking lot, 484 Housatonic St, Dalton, MA 01226 at 10:00 am. We’ll depart together from there and caravan down the back roads to the boat ramp (the boat launch ramp is very hard to find and is not marked by signs; do NOT rely upon GPS – it will NOT get you there).
Hike Leader: Charlotte Hood
Language: This paddle will be led in English.
